Hello Rick

I have been a big fan of Rick Steves for years and have been using his travel guides for over 20 years.

You have probably seen him on PBS at one time or another.

Anyway, Sarah and I were on the train from Venice to Rome in one of the first class cars. I did not like our seats and looked to change seats. As I scoped the seats in the car ahead, I bumped into Rick typing away vigorously working on some copy for new shows.

I introduced myself and we chatted for a few minutes. I told him how his travel tip in Munich 21 years ago to avoid the Hofbrauhaus and go to Mathasers for bierhall fun made the beer trip pilgrimage with Reino and Glenn awesome. We both lamented on it's closing several years ago.

I went back and told Sarah that I saw Rick and she didn't believe me. So I told her to grab her Rick Steves Rome book and come up and have him sign it.

Here is Sarah talking about her trip to Rick as he signs her book. He was very gracious and he and his film crew got off in Florence to work in some new shows.

Wow - that is awesome. Val & Marj & I did a trip similar to yours in May. It was great but it would have been perfect if we had met Rick Steves on a train!

I've enjoyed your blog posts.

Tony Rumjob forever!
