Weissbier at the Rialto Bridge
On Sunday Sarah and I bought a boat pass and cruised around Venice's Grand Canal. We stopped at the Rialto Bridge for some obligatory photos and some lunch.
There must be a lot of German tourists that come here, because almost everyplace that we go has Wiener Schnitzel on the menu. Anyway, we found a place with Franziskaner Weissbier which is the perfect complement to Wiener Schnitzel on a hot day. Who would have thought we would come to Italy for German cuisine.
The Rialto Bridge is one of the main tourist areas in Venice. Back in 1500, when Venice was at the peak of it's power as a city-state, the bridge linked the commercial area to the religious/political (St. Marks Square). Today it is filled with tourist and restaurants with picture menus.
After lunch we headed over to Venice's train station to scope out our arrangements to Rome on Monday morning. The train station connects Venice to the mainland and is not nearly as grand as some of he great train stations in Europe.
