Visit to Normandy

Today Sarah and I made our way to Normandy to visit the D-Day Beaches and Pont du Hoc.  We also stopped and visited the American Cemetery above Omaha Beach.

Normandy is a 3-hour bus ride from Paris and this trip is about 14-15 hours door to door.

This is my third trip here in 10 years and while it seems odd, the popularity of tourists visiting these sites is on the rise.  Contrasting that to WWI sites which are almost forgotten.

This trip was a quick in and out at Pont du Hoc, Omaha Beach, American Cemetery, and Juno & Gold beaches, and the Arromanches Churchill Harbor.  If you are into WWII history, you need to pick one or two places and spend more time.

Sarah enjoyed herself much more than I thought she would as she snapped over 100 photos.  Maybe now I am get her to watch Band of Brothers.

We are riding on the bus back to Paris and hope to be back around 9:30PM local time - maybe we will get a late dinner like the Parisians do.  Tomorrow we are definitely sleeping in and will likely see a few things on Thursday before we head to London.

We are still trying to figure out the details of our Italy excursion after London.  The only thing set is that we are flying into Venice on Saturday and out of Rome on Wednesday.
