Buying Lobster From Archie

TJ and I were out picking up a few things at the store for our cookout tonight and bumped into Archie the lobster salesman at the grocery store.  Archie seemed to know everyone and was full of life and energy selling his fresh Maine lobsters.

We stopped and talked for a minute and Archie told us that the best lobsters were between 2-3 pounds.  He also told us that he was 84 years old and World War 2 veteran.  I asked him where he served and he told us that he was in the 4th Armored Division in Patton’s 3rd Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

On one level it is hard to believe that one of the surviving heroes of WWII was working at the local grocery store selling lobsters.  However, I can assure you that watching Archie for 5 minutes pack up lobsters for customers that in no way was he “working” in the normal sense that we use the word.  He could not have been more happy and enthusiastic with the customers and my guess is that Archie was having more fun that most of us today.

Nice to meet you Archie and TJ and I look forward to stopping by again to say hello.

On this Memorial Day weekend – take a minute or two and thank a veteran – you never know who you might meet.

Fenway Park

For the last event for our conference this week, 25 of us are off at Fenway Park for some team building.

The Red Sox are playing Minnesota.

I am sitting next to Anubhav from India. He knows cricket rules but not baseball. We spent the first 2 innings doing a rules comparison between baseball and cricket. I never thought of baseball as a strange sport, but now that I have had to explain the rules, it is clear to me that they had to have been drinking just a little bit when they invented the game.

Personal Martini in Boston

I am in Boston's Little Italy on Hanover Street at a restaurant called Bricco.

I have been here once before and it is one of the best Italian restaurants that I have ever been to. I am here again with Tim Barry who is my good friend and colleague and we are hosting a dinner with some of our key clients.

I did not know that I made such an impression when we were here last year, but apparently they named a martini after me.

If you get to Boston, I highly recommend this place.

Double Dip

Vicki's birthday is tomorrow, so we have a hybrid cake. Normally, you don't blow out candles on a Mother's day cake, but we thought it best to limit ourselves to one sheet cake this week.

Happy Mother's Day Vicki.
Happy Birthday Vicki.

Lunch Stop in New Hope

On the way back from Baltimore today, we stopped in New Hope for lunch.

We ate at Fran's Pub across from the Witch Shop. Heather wanted to go in for a staff meeting but we decided to go to Rita's and have the kids talk to the animated Italian Ice Man and check-out the canal.
